In the latest incident of violence in Manipur, three people including two police commandos died. Women took out a protest march carrying torches in Imphal regarding the Moreh incident. Seeing the situation, the Manipur government has written a letter to the Center asking for help.
Burning has been going on in Manipur since May last year. There is tension between the Kuki and Meitei communities here.
To stop the violence, security posts have been set up at various places, but now the miscreants are targeting the security forces themselves.
Last Wednesday, miscreants attacked the police post in Moreh of Tengnoupal district, in which three people including two security personnel have died.
Apart from this, two other security personnel are seriously injured.
This attack on the security post comes after an action taken two days ago by a joint team of Manipur Police and Central Security Forces, in which miscreants from the Kuki community were arrested.
One of those arrested was Philip Khongsai, the main accused in the murder of police officer Anand Chongtham in November last year.
Anand was killed by a sniper’s bullet on November 1 last year when he was supervising the clearing of land in Moreh for the construction of a helipad.
Two police commandos were killed in the attack that took place around 3:30 am on Wednesday in Moreh.
Wangkhem Somarjeet and Takhelambam Shailesh, soldiers of the 6th Manipur Rifles, died after being shot.
